OxTS partners with EcoCAR Mobility Challenge

Company News July 7, 2020

For the first time, the twelve university teams competing in the EcoCAR Mobility Challenge can generate ground truth reference data to calibrate perception system sensors and refine sensor fusion algorithms. This comes as OxTS partners with EcoCAR to provide each of them with an RT3000 – the market-leading GNSS-aided Inertial Navigation System.

The four year competition – the latest in the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Advanced Vehicle Technology Competition (AVTC) series – challenges the twelve teams to improve the energy efficiency, safety and consumer appeal of the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer, for the car-sharing market. To do this, the teams must apply advanced propulsion systems, as well as SAE Level 2 Automation vehicle technology.

“Supporting automotive engineers to do their best work, with confidence, is what OxTS Automotive is all about,” explains Simon Thompson, Business Manager for the OxTS Automotive Division. “As soon as we heard about the opportunity to do that as part of the EcoCAR competition, we knew we wanted to be involved. We can’t wait to meet the teams at the next workshop, support them through the remaining years of the competition and see what they achieve along the way”.

Priyash Misra, Advanced Vehicle Technology Competition Connected and Automated Vehicle (CAV) Research Engineer said he is “delighted to have OxTS on-board. For the students, it offers a leap forward in their ability to maximize the performance of their vehicles, whilst giving them hands-on experience with another tool that they will likely encounter often in their future careers.”

OxTS looks forward to supporting all the students as they begin to test and validate with confidence.
